“Green buildings are the inevitable future of Architecture. Conventional buildings consume and contaminate vast amounts of water, and are responsible for much of the greenhouse-gas emissions that cause global warming—the most tangible urgent environmental problem threatening our whole way of life”

~ Peter Buchanan Architectural Record, May 2000

Los Altos Hills - Contemporary
New 7,100 s.f. two story contemporary style home on hilltop with carefully placed windows and soaring curved roof lines to take advantage of sweeping views of Silicon Valley, without sacrificing privacy to or from the neighbors. Numerous green building features, including radiant floors, metal roof, PV solar panels, cotton "blue jeans" insulation, certified hardwood floors, and comprehensive passive solar design, keep the energy costs down to a minimum.
Monte Sereno - Cottage
New 700 s.f. cottage with attached 200 s.f. garage used as a secondary dwelling unit on a 2 acre lot.  Radiant heating, bamboo floors, fly ash concrete, certified lumber, recycled Trex decking, and limited interior sheetrock are featured in this sustainable cottage completed in late 1999.
Portola Valley - Earthy Modern
Contemporary additions to existing flat roofed hillside home. Bold use of color, material, and form accentuate this energy efficient, "green" project located on a steep, heavily wooded, and challenging hillside lot. Careful selection of finishes were required so as not to exacerbate the client's chemical sensitivities, and extensive daylighting strategies were employed to brighten up the existing home and save energy.
Mendocino County - Barn
New 2,000 s.f. barn/garage with loft above employs a rural barn vernacular on this remote rural sheep ranch, so it seems as though it's always been there, although built in 2004. Photo-Voltaic array charges a battery based electrical system for this "off the grid" property. Reclaimed lumber, recycled wood siding, fly ash concrete, natural daylighting, and passive ventilation gives this building an appropriately small "environmental footprint".
